The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation (KAS) brought together this Thursday, April 22, 2021 in Lomé (Hotel Onomo), fifteen economic development actors, in an economic forum under the theme "The place of women in the economy of Togo "in order to share their good practices and identify the blocking points they encounter in their countries.

Back in Togo, after several months of absence due to the pandemic, the Foundation, whose regional base is in Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, undertakes to highlight the economic potential of women who are a crucial actor development, and moreover promote the emergence of female leadership.

In his opening speech, the Resident Representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and Director of the “Political Dialogue Program in West Africa”, Florian Karner, addressed the participants, drawing on the unprecedented actions carried out by the women in West African States and the

"On behalf of the Foundation, you as women occupy a primordial place in the life of the countries of West Africa, more particularly in Togo in view of the importance of your role in the socio-economic fabric. Women are a crucial actor in the development of our States, indeed, they are those who are in the oven and in the mill to ensure a better daily life for the family. As a result, she is always on the front lines. This is what we often forget. When we talk about the economic role, we think of employment, of work, but often it is women who are the main managers of families, which is another extra job. Indeed, in addition to being the mother of several children, the woman is a first-rate actress and this is true in all sectors of the economy of your country ", he confided.

Never appreciated at their fair value, despite the hard work and the daily efforts they provide for the development of the country, the place of women is understood, and through this theme, the role of women in the economy must be valued. "The theme of this forum, the place of women in the economy in Togo, a general title, but we cannot stop repeating the crucial role of women in the economy. Although you are often relegated to the second rank, due to socio-cultural constraints, the woman deploys considerable efforts to carry out economic activities not only to bring the family out of precariousness but the large family. However, your role is not valued enough or framed in a positive way. And the woman struggles to access the factor of production, often land and financing to carry out an income-generating activity. The importance of this meeting is intended to be a framework for reflections and discussions aimed at proposing solutions, to finally allow Togolese women to fully play their role as a development actor and creator of wealth, ”said Florian. Karner.

According to him, the Foundation expects from the participating entrepreneurs in this meeting, proposals and recommendations that it will bring to the attention of the government and all this in a very positive and constructive framework to give this feeling, this temperature. of the base that can be used for political decisions.

Present at the opening ceremony, together with his colleague from the Municipality of Dankpen 2, Ms. Nare Tanma Tittor, the Mayor of the Municipality of Golfe 1, Joseph Gbloèkpo Koamy Gomado, looking at this topic of general interest which is the subject of discussion, returned to the role played by the Nana Benz in the economic history of Togo.

“We are in Africa, without women we are nothing. In the recent history of Togo, it is women who hold economic power through the Benz girls ; the Togolese woman always embodies this dynamism and then that we cannot leave the woman apart from the Togolese economy. It is in this context that we can welcome this forum organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. I believe that with these 2 days, the sharing of experiences will allow Togolese women to further strengthen the Togolese economy. I believe that it will reflect on the other sectors ”, he also expressed like wish.
