Addressing the subject on the criminalization of homosexual relations and violations of the human rights of gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex and asexual lesbians, the Togolese Minister of Human Rights, Christian Trimua remained strict on the non-abrogation of the law that penalizes homosexuals.
“Regarding sexual relations between consenting adults of the same sex, Togo is not considering repealing the provisions that criminalize it. Because this sexual orientation is not in line with Togolese social values, "said Christian Trimua.
The new code of persons and the family of Togo recognizes only the marriage between a man and a woman, the homosexual acts are sanctioned by a sentence of three years of imprisonment and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 500,000. CFA francs in accordance with Togolese legislation.
